About Eve

My background is mainly from Arts and Crafts.

I studied Applied Arts at Derby University and gained a B.A. Honours Degree. My final piece was a ceramic water feature and I grew some plants to enhance the piece.

It was then that I became addicted to growing.

After finishing University I worked at Markeaton Glasshouses for four seasons, producing hanging baskets and growing plants for the parks and traffic islands. I also became involved in creating indoor displays for example the Assembly Rooms, Burton Town Hall and The Council House for inauguration ceremonies.

As I have a slight disability and the work became too hard for me I took an office job working for a Regeneration Project in Derwent, during this time I gained a foundation degree in Community Regeneration and Development.

However I was never happy at a desk and part of my work allowed me setting up two community gardens with volunteers, a lot of which are older people and people with disabilities and I also set up a family gardening group.

During this time I studied horticulture at Broomfield College where I obtained a Royal Horticultural Society Certificate and I attended as many courses as I could on Business and Social Enterprise, which brings me to where I am now.

Eves Plants

Three years ago I began a garden maintenance business but 2 years ago I fractured my knee. Luckily my son came to my rescue helping with the heavier work. I realised I couldn’t take on any more gardens so I turned my skills and passion for growing into a business. As part of this business I hold stalls at farmers markets, including Castle Donington Farmers Market, carnivals and fetes.

Eves plants is not just another plant shop selling plants imported from Holland.

A lot of the plants have been grown by local people, some with disabilities, some are children.

I purchase the plants and sell them on. This works well as I haven’t got a large nursery to store them so are limited to what I can grow.

I aim to provide a different vegetable plant every week of the season with advice on how to grow your own.

The business will also be used as a vehicle not only for individuals to sell me their plants but for voluntary organisations to promote their work, raise awareness and funds with a space in the shop for hand made crafts and cards.

As well as providing plants, vegetable plants, shrubs and perennials I can create perennial and annual borders, patio vegetable gardens, vegetable gardens and raised beds,

We can even redesign and landscape your garden for you. My other son who is an Architectural Technologist will draw up the plans for you, please visit his site JRPcad.

So everything you need to create a garden, we can provide it.
